PREVENTION
& EDUCATION Between
Friends is committed to providing education within the community to increase
awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence, provide resources for
witnesses and victims, and to aid in the prevention of domestic violence
in future generations.
Between Friends provides customized workshops for teens, healthcare providers,
businesses, churches, and community groups to best meet the needs and
concerns of each audience.
R.E.A.C.H. Relationship Education: A Choice for Hope) Teen Dating Violence Prevention
Program
- Dynamic, in-school program works with middle and high school youth
- Programs available in Chicago and suburban public and private schools
- Helps young women and men recognize forms and patterns of abuse
- Explores alternatives for abusive and violent behavior
- Provides resources for youth who experience or witness dating violence
- Programs range in length and scope from one-period workshops to
seven-week long series
- Emphasis on peer education and leadership, to enable young people
to work with their peer groups to affect change.

Community Education
Between Friends works with a diverse array of community members to raise awareness and build a strong constituency for ending the cycle of domestic violence. Through the Community Education Program, the staff educates youth, area human service providers, law enforcement and criminal justice officials, educators, clergy, businesspeople, and other members of the community. We fulfill training requests by offering:
- Speakers to provide training on the dynamics of domestic violence
- Resources and publications for witnesses and victims of domestic violence
- Training on domestic violence as it relates to children, substance abuse, employment, and community advocacy
Healthcare Education
Between Friends’ Healthcare Education Project continues to be the only program on Chicago's far north side created to prepare the healthcare field to safely and sensitively respond to the needs of domestic violence and elder abuse victims. Between Friends works in partnership with several local healthcare institutions, social service organizations, and community members to coordinate a comprehensive and sustained healthcare response to domestic violence in our community. We offer:
- Domestic violence training and resources for healthcare professionals
- Assistance in developing screening tools and protocols for domestic violence
- Materials and resources for patients who are victims of domestic violence
