Please join Between Friends for our 13th annual Light up the Lakefront Luminaria. This exceptional event, both stunning as it is heartrending, will launch Between Friends’ month-long recognition of October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The prelude begins with volunteers and staff hanging purple ribbons on the trees along Michigan Avenue at Fourth Presbyterian Church. Between Friends’ staff and volunteers then come together on Wednesday, October 1st at Oak Street beach to light 3,000 candles at dusk. Each of these candles pays homage to the 3,000 women who are murdered each year as a result of domestic violence.
Help contribute to the success of this event by volunteering to set up the beach from 3-7:30 pm, to hang purple ribbons, or simply gather your loved ones and join us at dusk to witness the lighting of the candles as we honor those no longer with us.
For questions or to volunteer, please contact Yesenia Romo, Director of Programs, at 773-374-5232 x 20 or yromo@betweenfriendschicago.org.
